Education: Referencing

Library resources for the School of Education

Harvard reference style

The School of Education uses the Harvard style of referencing. While the standard structure is author date title, there are many versions of it. Check the School's course handbook or your module guide to ensure you are using the correct version.

Cite them right online is designed to help reference print and electronic sources accurately.

To find out about managing references, please see the RefWorks guide.

Why does citing and referencing matter?

When writing a piece of work, it's essential to give accurate references to all the sources you have used, so that:

  • readers will be able to find the originals easily
  • the breadth of your research will be evident
  • you will avoid the serious academic offence of plagiarism
