Geography, Archaeology & Palaeoecology: Journal Articles

Library support for the School of Geography, Archaeology & Palaeoecology

Finding a specific journal article from a reference or reading list

If you wish to find the full text of a specific journal article (ie where you have the name of the author, title of the article, title of journal, volume number, page numbers etc), you can do this by searching the library catalogue at Make sure you search for the title of the journal, not the title of the article.

Most of our current journal subscriptions are available as electronic journals, but we also have print runs of older journal issues in the library. Print journals are kept on mobile shelves on each floor of the library; see video on the right for help using the mobile shelving.

To find the full text of the following journal article...

Wilson, H.F. (2017). 'On geography and encounter: Bodies, borders, and difference', Progress in Human Geography, 41(4), pp.451-471.

Search the library catalogue for keywords from the title of the journal

The catalogue record will show you whether the journal is available in print, electronically, or both. Click on the hyperlinks to find out what years are available for each format:

Once you have found the journal, you can then go to the relevant volume/issue number (in this case, Volume 41, Issue 4) to access the article.

Finding journal articles on a topic

If you aren't looking for a specific article but want to identify articles on a particular topic for an undergraduate essay or assignment, you can do this by using Article Search at

Type keywords relating to your topic into the Article Search box:

For anyone doing a large scale research project or dissertation/thesis, it is recommended that you use bibliographic databases to search for relevant articles. See Databases for further information.
