Finding print books

If you know which book you need, search QCat Library Catalogue for the author's surname and a few words from the title.

Module reading lists

Multiple copies of books for your module are usually held in the Short Loan collection on the Ground Floor of the McClay Library.

Research texts

Education books are located in the section fro L-LT on Floor 2 of the McClay Library.

LB covers theory and practice of education

LC covers special aspects of education.

Books about the English language can be found from PE1001 to PE1693.

Locating books in the Library

Tips

  • Search using a combination of author surname and title keywords, e.g. Cohen research methods
  • Check the publication year to be sure of using the correct edition
  • Click to show all available copies
  • Click the book title to see full book details and all copies
  • Click cover icons to find out more about a book (contents listing often available)

Problems accessing e-Resources

Locating library books

Each book has a label on the spine called a shelfmark which is a combination of letters and numbers. It can be broken down into sections to make it easier to find the book you are looking for. For example:

Finding E-books

The Library acquires a wide selection of e-books where permitted by the publisher. They can be found and accessed only through QCat Library Catalogue.

Recommend a book

Reading list books

The library makes every effort to hold the key texts that are on reading lists for your modules.

If there are books on your module reading list which you cannot find in the QCat library catalogue, please let the library know by filling in our book form or emailing your subject librarian.

 
Books not on reading lists 
The library also considers purchasing suggestions for books which are not on module reading lists. If you'd like to recommend a book for the library collection, please email your subject librarian.
