Theses: Queen's E-Thesis

This guide is intended to provide advice to PGR students on their eThesis

Current requirements for PGR's

All Queen’s Postgraduate Research students are required to upload an electronic copy of their final thesis to Pure. Print copies are no longer required. You cannot graduate without first submitting an e-version of your doctoral thesis. Student registry liaise with us to confirm submission has been made, so you will not be invited to register for graduation until this step has been completed.

  • Please note your access to Pure may expire before you graduate
  • It is imperative therefore that you upload the copy of your thesis to Pure as soon as possible and before your Pure account expires
  • If you no longer have access to Pure and have yet to upload, you can email the E-thesis team at the address below and your e-thesis will be uploaded on your behalf
  • Further details about the dates of your Pure access will be found in your Pure record
  • Once your e-thesis has been uploaded to Pure it will become Open Access i.e. available to read and download on Queen's Research Portal. The full text of the thesis will only be available if you have not applied any embargoes
  • PGR students are given 6 months, post completion date, of Pure profile visibility on the Research Portal. If any changes are required to your profile during this time (e.g. you need publications or activities added), please contact openaccess@qub.ac.uk and they will be happy to assist.
  • If you have any questions, please contact the Open Research Librarian, Dawn Pike or E-thesis team: e-thesis@qub.ac.uk

For Postgraduate Research students who are funded by the UK Research Councils, there are particular terms and conditions regarding their funding:

  1. The thesis should be deposited as soon as possible and available no later than 12 months following award of the doctorate. This means applying for an embargo for a period not exceeding 12 months following the award.
  2. The research ought also to acknowledge receipt of Research Council funding.

Note that UKRI funding is covered by the following councils: AHRC, BBSRC, EPSRC, MRC, NERC & STFC.
