NB You should always check with your supervisor or publisher that the referencing style you are using is the correct one. Back up your documents - especially before making significant changes (i.e. merging or changing formats). Always carefully proofread your work - imported data can contain errors. The RefWorks team will always try to help, but you are responsible for backing up, protecting and preserving your documents.
Why use reference management software?
Reference management (also called bibliographic management or citation management) software saves you a great deal of time and effort when you are writing a paper, dissertation or thesis.
It enables you to store the references you collect while searching the literature, and will automatically format the citations in a word processor document, and produce a list of references at the end of that document formatted in the style of your choice (e.g. Harvard, Vancouver).
There are lots of reference management software packages to choose from: some require a subscription and some are free - see below for more information.
Cite Them Right Online
Cite them right online is designed to help students reference print, electronic or performance sources accurately. The website has been developed from the book Cite them right: the essential referencing guide by Richard Pears and Graham Shields.
Other reference management software
Various free reference management software packages are available: e.g. Zotero, Mendeley and Qiqqa. The RefWorks team is happy to put together training sessions on these packages, please contact us to discuss (email@example.com).

While Queen's does not have a university-wide subscription to Endnote, QUB users can use the free on-line version, Endnote Web. To do so, you need to sign up for a free Thomson Reuters personal account, either via the Endnote Web homepage, or through another Thomson Reuters resource subscribed to by Queen's (e.g. Web of Science).
