Historic buildings in Northern Ireland

The Historic Environment Record of Northern Ireland (HERoNI)

Formerly known as the National Monuments and Buildings Record for Northern Ireland (NMBR NI), HERoNI gathers information about historic buildings, archaeological sites and monuments, maritime and wartime sites, and parks, gardens and demesnes.

Useful online information resources include:

(records of buildings of architectural or historic interest - including listed buildings; provides descriptions for around 70% of listed buildings)

(information about Northern Ireland’s archaeological sites and monuments)

(you can search, browse, or navigate to a particular area to explore the local heritage)

Beyond the information provided in the online database above, HERoNI hold architectural drawings, photographs and documentary material which can be consulted by appointment.

Ulster Architectural Heritage (UAH)
A not for profit organisation which works to promote the value of built heritage, its protection, conservation, and regeneration for people and communities

National Museums NI holds a collection of historic photographs from around 1870 onwards mostly related to the northern parts of Ireland. The collection includes images of buildings, street scenes and townscapes. A selection of the photographs can be accessed online.
