AI in Library resources

AI in Library resources

Generative AI functionality is now available in a number of resources that the University Library subscribes to. This guide provides an overview of AI features currently available in subscription resources. You must be a current student or staff to use AI features in subscription Library resources. You need to be successfully authenticated to the resource with your Queen's University Belfast credentials. Using the relevant library link for resources on Databases A-Z or Library Search will ensure you are properly authenticated.

Guidelines

  • You should always consult your School, module instructor or supervisor's guidelines on the use of AI as some courses may restrict or prohibit the use of generative AI in academic work. QUB Position on AI offers University guidance for staff and students.
  • AI tools are not appropriate for literature or systematic review.
  • Please be mindful that while responses from AI tools may be based in academic content, AI generated content can produce inaccurate statements, errors, biases or hallucinations. Many AI tools are in beta testing and are continually evolving. You must implement critical evaluation when using AI functionality in resources and always verify that the information provided by AI tool is accurate.
  • Do not enter personally identifiable information into AI tools.
  • Please be aware that when using AI tools, you may be consenting to the publisher collecting any data that you choose to share with the tool. For more information about privacy practices and the practices of the LLMs used by the tool refer to the AI tools information provided on the publisher site.
  • AI tools in Library resources should be used as a starting point and are not a substitute for reading the full text of content.
  • If you need advice on using AI tools in Library resources for your research, please contact your Subject Librarian who provides professional training and support to QUB students and staff.
