As an associate member you may borrow books from the unrestricted collections of any branch of Queen’s University Library.(Up to 10 books for a personal member or up to 15 books for a corporate member.)
Short-loan books are not available to borrow by associates but may be consulted in the short-loan section of the library.
The normal loan period is one month at which time you can renew the books unless requested by another reader i.e. ‘recalled’. You can login to your account online to renew books unless the book has been recalled.
All books are subject to recall at any time if requested by another reader.
If a book you have on loan is recalled, you will be contacted by email and given a date by which you must return it. Recalled books are subject to a higher rate of fine if not returned by the date notified in the recall email.
Your library record/account is deemed to be in default when you have overdue books and/or outstanding fines.
Printing and photocopying are available for a fee using your library smart card. Money can be loaded on to your card at any of the cash uploader machines in the library. See below for more information. Once you credit your smart card, it can also be used to purchase food and drink in the restaurants and cafés on the QUB campus.
Printing or photocopying costs 5p per page for black and white, or 20p per page for colour.
NB: make sure to choose the black and white option if collecting your printing from a colour machine.
The cash uploaders accept £1 coins, £2 coins or bank notes. They do not give out change. If you use the cash uploader, it will instantly upload the money on to your card and you can print/copy immediately.
Please note, as an associate, you can only add funds to your card via the cash uploader machines as there is currently no facility to add funds to your associate smart card online.
Membership of the Library does not include off campus access to any electronic resources because our licences specify that this facility is available only to current staff and students of the university.
There is limited on campus access to such resources but that too is governed by the licences negotiated with the suppliers. Some Queen’s collections are restricted to members of Queen’s University only.
Associate Membership does not include off-campus access to electronic resources. There is limited Library access to electronic resources. This access is defined by the licences negotiated with the providers and does not include the use of Library electronic resources for commercial purposes.
